Rex Church

SPRING GROVE- Rex Church, 79, died on Sunday July 18, 2010 at Manor Care Health Services- North. He was the loving husband of Kathleen J. (Moore) Church. The couple had wed on November 25, 1961. A memorial service will be 7 p.m. on Friday, July 23, 2010 at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Stoverstown with his pastor, Reverend Dennis Weidler officiating and Reverend Austin Chinault II assisting. A visitation will follow the service. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd., York is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Church was born on April 21, 1931, a son of the late Merton M. and Esther E. (Ferguson) Church. Rex worked as a Manufacturing Superintendent for GTE Sylvania until his retirement in 1989. He later was a school bus driver for Reliance Bus Co. and Laidlaw Transit. Mr. Church and his wife were members of St. Paul's UCC, Stoverstown, where he was very active. Mr. Church served our country for four years in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. Mr. Church was a member of Mount Moriah Lodge No. 145 F & A.M. in Jamestown, NY., Jamestown Consistory, and Tall Cedars Clown Unit York Forrest #30. Along with his wife, Kathleen, Mr. Church is survived by a son, Kenneth Rex Church of Spring Grove; a daughter, Rev. Jacqueline Rae Young and her husband, Scott of Lancaster; two grandchildren, Isaac Young and Katharyn "Max" Young; four brothers, Merton E. Church, Charles E. Church, Vernon M. Church and George E. Church; three sisters, Dorothy M. Greeley, Margaret Z. Radecki, and Hazel M. King. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Leon B. Church and Harry H. Church; and one sister, Helen M. Casler.
