DOVER- Reverend Donald Earl Hurlbert, 86, passed into the presence of his Lord on Saturday, January 22, 2011 at Susquehanna Valley Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. He was the loving husband of Donna L. (Liichow) Hurlbert. The couple had been married for 62 years. A memorial service will be 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 29, 2011 at the Church of the Open Door, 8 Carlisle Court., York, PA 17408 with the Reverend Robert Riedy officiating. A visitation will be from 9:30- 11 a.m. prior to the service at church. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd., York is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Hurlbert was born on September 8, 1924 in Oshawa, Canada, a son of the late Earl and Helen (Root) Hurlbert. He was a graduate from the Moody Bible Institute. He served as a navigator bombardier during World War II for the Canadian Air Force. Donald served as pastor in Henry and Cairo Illinois; New Kensington and Johnstown, PA. He served as senior pastor of the former York Gospel Center. He became general director of the Berean Mission, International, pastor of Ocean City Bible Church and director of the department of church ministries at Christian School of York. He also served as visitation pastor at Church of the Open Door in Shiloh. Donald served on the boards of Berean Mission International, Lancaster Bible College, Christian School of York, Fellowship of Independent Missions, Child Evangelism Fellowship, Toledo Bible College, Institute of Pastoral Internship and the York Bible Institute, as well as teaching. He was past President of the York Evangelical Ministries Fellowship and the Independent Fundamental Churches if America. Along with his wife, Donna, Donald is survived by five sons, David of Saegerstown, PA, Gary and his wife, Beth of Dover, Phillip and his wife, Gina of Columbia, Richard and his wife, Terri of Lancaster and Jon and his wife, Karla of Morrisville, PA; a daughter-in-law, Chris Hurlbert-Gemmell and her husband, Dennis; two brothers, Vernon of La Mirada, CA and Clayton of Oshawa, Canada; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Paul; and a sister Audrey. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Child Evangelism Fellowship of York Co., Inc., 58 Mt.
