YORK- Rev. Lloyd B. Stauffer, 84, of York, died at home on Sunday, August 26, 2007. He was the beloved husband of Gloria Miller Stauffer. A viewing will be 3- 4:00pm Friday, August 31, 2007 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc. 1551 Kenneth Rd., York. A funeral service will follow the viewing with the Rev. Robert F. Renjilian officiating. Born March 15, 1923 in Lancaster, a son of the late Martin and Anna Stauffer. Lloyd grew up on the family farm in Lancaster and was very fond of animals. He was at the forefront for environmental causes. Always the peacemaker, Lloyd went to Mississippi in 1964 right after the slayings of Civil Rights Workers and started where they had left off registering African-Americans to vote. In later years, Lloyd sang with the York Symphony. Three daughters, Mary Bray, Barbara Lockie- Brown, and Dr. Susan Stauffer; a stepson, Charles Miller; a stepdaughter, Dr. Valerie Miller; 10 grandchildren; and a sister, Vera Kauffman, survive Lloyd. Preceding him in death are his first wife, Miriam (Hess) Stauffer; a brother, Richard Stauffer; and a sister, Alma Stauffer. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to York VNA Hospice, 218 E. Market St., York, PA 17403 or Sierra Club National Headquarter, 85 Second Street, 2nd Floor, San Francisco, CA 94105.
