YORK- The Rev. George R. Knarr died on Thursday, October 19, 2017 at SpiriTrust Lutheran at Sprenkle Drive in York, PA. He was born on August 17, 1931, son of Malcolm and Ethel Jeannette (Weber) Knarr. Married for 62 years to Dorcas (Webb) Knarr. He leaves one daughter, Pamela McGuigan and husband, Michael of Mt. Wolf, PA; a granddaughter, Shelby McGuigan of Hatfield, PA; two nephews, and a niece. In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by a brother, Randolph H. Knarr. Mr. Knarr was a graduate of William Penn High School, York; American University, Washington, D.C., and the Gettysburg Lutheran Seminary (now United), Gettysburg, PA. He served our country in the United States Army in France. Reverend Knarr served the following Lutheran Churches: Trinity, Hagerstown, MD; Our Saviour, Warrenton, VA; St. Mark, York, PA; Zion, Etters, PA, and Salem, Jacobus, PA. He also served as interim Pastor at St. John, New Freedom, PA and Canadochly, Freysville, PA. George and his wife loved to travel. Their favorite places included the Hudson Valley, NY; Quebec, Canada; The Bahamas; Bermuda, and Europe. He served as blood chairman for the Red Cross in Warrenton, VA. He was selected to appear in the 1966 edition of Outstanding Young Men in America. George was a lifelong fan of the New York Yankees and also a fan of Penn State and the York Revolution. His other interests were stamp collecting, ballet, opera and symphonies. The Rev. Barbara Barry, Pastor of Quickel’s Lutheran Church will conduct the memorial service at 11 AM on Monday, October 23, 2017 at St. John Lutheran Church, 28 North Third Street, Mt. Wolf, PA, followed by a luncheon and visitation. A graveside service will be held at 9:30 AM on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at Susquehanna Memorial Gardens, York. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York, is in charge of arrangements.
