Retired Lieutenant Colonel John Edward Voyack, Sr.

CARLISLE-Retired Lieutenant Colonel John Edward Voyack, Sr., 94, of Carlisle, formerly of Avoca, passed away Tuesday morning at his home. Born in Avoca on November 28, 1916, he was a son of the late Edward and Catherine (Blieharz) Voyack. John was a graduate of the US Army Ordinance Center and School, and the University of Scranton. He was a former member of St. Mary’s Church, Avoca, attended SS. Peter and Paul Church, and was a current member of St. Patrick Church of Carlisle. He was also a member of the R.O.T.C., V.F W. Post 8335, Avoca, and the University of Scranton Alumni Association. John served in the United States Army for over 20 years and retired in 1976. He was a veteran of World War II and a founding member of the 2nd Armored Division serving under General George S. Patton. Prior to retiring in 1976, he was employed as a maintenance superintendent at Potlatch Paper Corporation, formerly the Swanee Paper Corporation. He was preceded in death by a brother, Francis Voyack; sisters Laura Melioris, Anna Spindler and Marie Roginsky. Surviving is his wife of 65 years, the former Mary Margaret Hines; son John E. Voyack, Jr. and his wife, Deborah of Carlisle; grandchildren John E. Voyack III and wife Chantelle, Heather Renee Williams and husband Randy, and Dana Gene Hubshman and husband Robert III; great grandchildren Julia Ellen Voyack, John E. Voyack IV, Colin Michael Williams and Robert Xavier Hubshman IV; brother Theodore Voyack of Pittston; sister Mrs. Helen Zatorsky of Scranton; several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday at SS. Peter and Paul Church, 1000 Main Street, Avoca, with the Reverend Phillip J. Sladicka officiating. Friends may call from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the church. Interment will be on Tuesday, May 24 at 2:30 p.m. in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. Services have been entrusted to Kniffen O’Malley Funeral Home, Inc., 728 Main Street, Avoca.
