YORK – Rebecca M. (Parthemer) Shelly, 96, passed away Monday, January 7, 2013 at York Hospital. She was the wife of the late Harry A. Shelly. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, January 12, 2013 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 839 W. Market St., York with her pastors, The Rev. Kevin T. Shively and The Rev. Keith C. Fair officiating. A viewing will be held from 6-8:00 PM Friday at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York. Burial will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, January 14, 2013 at Emanuel Cemetery, Lewisberry. Born April 8, 1916 in Newberry Twp., a daughter of the late William A. and Ida G. (Miller) Parthemer, she was a 1933 graduate of William Penn High School in Harrisburg. Throughout her life Rebecca has worked for the PA Dept. of Revenue, York Carmel Co., held a seasonal position at the downtown York Post Office, and Tremont Seafood and Catering Co. She was an active member at St. Matthew Lutheran Church where she was a member of Women’s Circle #1, and the former Class 18 Sunday School and Half Century Fellowship. She had been a member of the North York Married Women’s Club since 1948 and was the last member of the North York Sewing Club that began sewing bandages for soldiers during WWII. Mrs. Shelly is survived by a daughter, Carolyn E. and husband Frank M. Shaffer of York; two granddaughters, Juliann Smith-Gaetano and husband Anthony and Valerie and husband Sean Harmon; four great grandchildren, Anthony Gaetano and fiancée Amanda, Rachel Smith and fiancé Matthew, Devyn and Briana Harmon; two great great grandsons, Dominic and Mason; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, William M. Parthemer. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 839 W. Market St., York, PA 17401.
