Raymond W. Ruth, Jr.

YORK – Raymond W. Ruth, Jr., 84, passed away Tuesday, November 21, 2023 surrounded by his loved ones at his residence.

A Celebration of Life Tribute Service will be held on Monday, November 27, 2023 at 11:00 AM located at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., York, with Certified Celebrant Amy M. Favorito officiating the service. A visitation at the funeral home will be held prior from 10-11:00 AM. A Graveside Service at Spring Grove Cemetery is to follow with Military Honors performed by York County Veterans Honor Guard.

Born November 23, 1938 in York, he was a son of the late Raymond W. Ruth, Sr. and Rose Joan (Cavanaugh) Ruth.

Mr. Ruth was a graduate of Spring Grove Senior High School. Shortly after, he joined the United States Army where he served for three years. After the military, Raymond worked for UA Local 520 and was a proud retiree as of 2002. In his free time, he was a member of Heritage Hills Resort Athletic Club where he worked out several times a week, enjoyed playing Black Jack and other gambling games at Casinos, vacationing and skiing at ski resorts and biking on the Rail Trail. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family.

Mr. Ruth is survived by two daughters, Catherine Glatfelter, Christine Smith and her husband Shane; six grandchildren, Heather Ostendorff and her husband Jeff, Ryan Smith, Brittney Smith, Lindsay Straley and her husband Justin, Timothy Glatfelter and his wife Rachel, Alyssa Sprenkle and her husband Andrew; eleven great-grandchildren; a sister, Cheryl Hoover and her husband Tom; his former wife, Paulette; and his companion, Virginia. He is preceded in death by a son-in-law Christopher Glatfelter and a brother Ronald Ruth.
