Raymond S. 'Amos' Howard

BROGUE Raymond S. Amos Howard, 94, passed away Tuesday, November 16, 2010 at Pleasant Acres nursing home. He was the husband of the late A. Lavinnia (Runkle) Howard. A celebration of life service will be at 10:00 A.M. Monday, November 22, 2010 at Life Tributes by Olewiler and Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion with his pastor, the Rev. Peter Beddia officiating. Viewings will be 7-8:30 P.M. Sunday and 9-10 A.M. Monday both at the funeral home. Burial will be in Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery following the service with full military rites provided by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. Born June 30, 1916 in Brogue, he was a son of the late James E. and Daisy M. (Haugh) Howard. Mr. Howard worked as an ice cream delivery truck driver for Warners Dairy for 28 years and Rutters Dairy for 10 years. He drove a school bus for the Red Lion Bus Company for a number of years and ran a fruit and vegetable stand in front of his home. Mr. Howard was a member of Brogue Lions Club, Red Lion Grange, Red Lion area Ambulance Association and a life member of the 7th Armored Division Association. Mr. Howard was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church. He proudly served in the United States Army for 3 years in the European Theatre in France during WWII, where he earned 4 silver stars. Mr. Howard is survived by a daughter, Lisa Howard of Kearneysville, WV; 3 grandchildren, Jeremy Burkholder of Florida, Elizabeth Kroner of Shepherdstown, WV, and Jamie Burkholder of York; 7 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Lori Howard; 6 brothers, Luther, William Sr., Chester, Harry, James Jr., and Roy Howard; and 3 sisters, Ruth Lloyd, Erma Moore and Mary Howard. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bethel United Methodist Church, 1674 Furnace Road, Brogue, PA 17309.
