Renovo - Raymond E. Pharis, Sr., 79 formerly of Hammersley Fork died Thursday, February 14, 2008 at Bucktail Medical Center, S. Renovo where had been a resident for 3 ½ years. Born January 30, 1929 to the late Orman C. & Anna (Russell) Stevenson. Raymond attended schools in Hammersley Fork and Renovo before joining the U.S. Army and serving active duty during the Korean Conflict. On November 21, 1953 Raymond married the former Arlene Sensenig and in November 2003 they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with friends and family. Arlene passed away on April 3, 2005. Raymond was a community minded person and served with several local organizations. He was a charter member and past president of the Kettle Creek Hose Company of Cross Fork and was a longtime member and past president of the Kettle Creek Tamarack Sportsmen Association. He was a member of the F.A.M. Lodge #495 of Renovo for over 50 years and was a past master of Tamarack Grange #1388 for over 50 years. For many years and countless hours Raymond could be found helping out at his son and daughter-in-law's store and garage in Tamarack. Raymond has worked as a clerk in the store Dept. of the Pennsylvania Railroad in Renovo and later as an assembler at Piper Aircraft Corp. in Lock Haven retiring in 1970. Surviving are a daughter Sharon (Jim) Younger of Montgomery a son Raymond, Jr. "Rainbo" (Ann) of Tamarack. Two granddaughters, Deanna Marie Pharis and fianc矐eter Vinch of Arlington, VA and Elizabeth Arlene Pharis of Fairfax, VA Also eight brothers and sisters who knew him as brother "Bo" Frederick (Nioma) Pharis of Montoursville, Marion Botsford of Jersey Shore, Kenneth Stevenson, Gerald (Gladys) Stevenson, Violet (Ed) Boeding, Viola Mincer, Donald (Barbara) Stevenson and Elizabeth Williams all of Renovo. Also several nieces and nephews who knew him as uncle "Bo" He was preceded in death by his loving wife, parents, and three sisters Norma Grace Stevenson, Gearldine Stevenson and Dorothy Lewis. Memorial contributions can be made in his memory to Bucktail Medical Center or Kettle Creek Hose Company. A memorial service will be held 1:00 P.M., Saturday, March 1, 2008 at Sunset Memorial Church, Tamarack with Rev. Mahlon Nevel officiating. Friends and relatives will be received at the church from Noon to 1:00 P.M. A masonic service will be held at 12:45 P.M. Private interment will be at New Maple Grove Cemetery, Tamarack.
