Raymond E. Miller

Raymond E. Miller, 94, passed away at home in York Sunday June 3, 2018 in the love and comfort of family. He was the husband of Gail R. (Albright) Miller “his sweetie” with whom he enjoyed 30 blessed years of marriage. Ray, as he was known by his many friends, was born in Dallastown, to the late Herman and Hazel (Stine) Miller. He attended Dallastown Area HS. His love of country called him to enlist in the US Army in 1943 and serve as an Anti-Aircraft Gunman in 502nd Artillery Battalion. He received numerous medals including Philippine Liberation Ribbon, several Bronze Stars, and WWII Victory medals. He worked as Parts Manager at York Mack for 52 years. He also worked part-time for many years at Conrad’s Delicatessen, owned by his late sister Ester and her husband Joe Conrad, along with 3 of his 4 children – Don, Lisa, and Grant Miller and 2 nephews Larry and Chris Conrad. In addition to his wife Gail, he is survived by his daughter Lisa Miller and husband Mike Barbery of VA; stepdaughter Julie Smith and husband Chad Smith of Dover; and Gay Lynn (Miller) Miller wife of the late Donald R. Miller, his eldest son; 4 grandchildren, Dirk Auman wife Katlyn, Brandon Barbery, Bryan Miller wife Megan and Kelly (Miller) Barna and husband Pete and 3 great grandchildren, Olive and Freya Miller and Arianna Barna. Ray is also survived by his youngest sister Ruth and husband Jim Burkett, along with Ruth’s 5 children: Connie Wertman, Dan Deller, Beth Harlacher, Deb Long and Joann Hullman. He was preceded in death by 3 of his children whom he dearly loved and has now joined in everlasting life- Donald, Suzanne and Grant. Longtime residents of York County, Ray and wife Gail, lived in Palm Bay, FL for 10 years, enjoying the ocean, their swimming pool, warm weather, family and many good friends. Ray was longtime member of Christ Lutheran Church of Dallastown and a member of Dallastown American Legion Post 605, and West York VFW. A Memorial Service Celebrating Ray’s Life will be held at 12PM, Saturday June 16th at Paradise (Holtzschwamm) Evangelical Covenant Church, 6777 Lincoln Hwy, Thomasville, where he attended. A reception will immediately follow in the fellowship hall. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd, York is in charge of arrangements.
