YORK- Ray G. Rife, 90, passed away on Friday, January 15, 2016 at his residence. He was the husband of the late Patricia A. Rife, who passed away on June 7, 2012. The couple had been married for 55 years. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 21, 2016 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 947 N. George St., York with his pastor, the Reverend Beth Schlegal officiating. A visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday at the church. Private burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery with full military honors provided by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd., York is in charge of arrangements. Born on October 2, 1925 in Lemon Twp., he was a son of the late Edwin J. and Daysie G. (Grose) Rife. Ray was a supervisor at York International, formerly Borg-Warner until his retirement. He also was employed with Alumax Aluminum in Centerville and was a life guard at the YMCA for 17 years. Mr. Rife served our country in the U.S. Merchant Marines from October of 1943 to April of 1958. Ray was a member of the White Rose Bridge Club and Borg-Warner Bridge Club, the Optimist Club of York and served on the board of the Children’s Home of York. Ray enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing. Mr. Rife is survived by three sons, John E. Rife of Asland, MA, Randy G Rife of Ware, MA and James W. Rife and his wife, Nancy of Huntingdon; five grandsons; two step grandsons; three step great grandsons; and one brother, Robert M. Rife and his wife, Shirley of Hanover. He was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Rife. Memorial contributions may be made to the Children’s Home of York, 77 Shoe House Rd., Hallam, PA 17406 or the Salvation Army, 50 E. King St., York, PA 17401.
