YORK – Ray G. Gilbert, 75, passed away at York Hospital on Thursday, April 14, 2022. He was the loving husband of the late Norma J. (Sharp) Gilbert. A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, April 24 at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 397 Tyler Run Rd in York, at 2:00 PM, with Pastor Dale Parker officiating. Private entombment will be in Salem Union Cemetery, Jacobus. A visitation time will immediately follow the service in the church fellowship hall. Heffner Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc. is in charge of arrangements. Born on September 12, 1946, in Lower Windsor Township, he was the son of the late James Gordon and Pauline A. (Stine) Gilbert. After his graduation from Eastern High School in 1964, Mr. Gilbert went into the Navy, and served our country aboard the USS John F. Kennedy from 1966 to 1969. Upon returning home, Mr. Gilbert worked for Duplex Products, and later retired from Relizon Co. He also worked at Postal Connection for several years, post retirement. Ray was a devoted member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church, and was involved in Sunday school and other activities around the church. He would always volunteer around Christmas for Operation Christmas Child. He also volunteered twice a month at The Well. Over the years, Ray enjoyed traveling and trying new things. In his free time, he looked forward to spending time with Max, his West Highland Terrier, who was always by his side, vacationing at the beach, playing cards and going out for breakfast with his High School graduating class and fellow retirees from Duplex. Mr. Gilbert leaves behind a daughter, Renee N. and husband Michael Kauffman of Hagerstown, MD; a son Chadwick J. Daugherty, of York; two granddaughters, Natalie A. Kinzel and husband, Jay of Morgantown, WV, and Abigail P. Kauffman of Hagerstown, MD; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, Mr. Gilbert is preceded in death by two sisters, Joanne Sprenkle, and Donna Mae Dunaway. Ray will always be remembered for his caring heart, and willingness to help anyone in need. He was a warm and caring father, grandfather and friend, who will be missed by many.
