TROY- Ralph R. Summers, 98, of Canton, PA went to Heavenly places to be with his Lord on Saturday, December 7, 2013 at the Bradford County Manor. He was the loving husband of the late Susette A. (Day) Summers who passed away December 18, 2003. The couple married January 1, 1947 and had 56 happy years together. Family and friends are invited to call from 10:00-11:00 am on Thursday, December 12, 2013 at the Gerald W. Vickery Jr. Funeral Home, Inc. 1093 West Main Street Troy, PA. The Celebration of Ralph’s life will begin at 11:00 am on Thursday, December 12th at the funeral and interment will private at the convenience of Ralph’s family in Glenwood Cemetery. Ralph was born on October 26, 1915 in Armenia Township, Bradford County, PA, son of the late Melchior M. and B. Agnes (Smith) Summers. He was a 1933 Troy High School graduate and was a World War II veteran serving his country in China as part of the Army Air Corps Flying Tigers. Before the war he worked on the family farm, and after worked on the railroad in Springfield, VT where he met Susette, came back to the family farm till 1971, the moved to Florida where he was a Produce Inspector for the USDA until his retirement in 1981. Ralph was a member of Calvary Alliance Chapel in Canton, and VFW Post 8675 in Troy. He enjoyed spending time with his family, farming, and traveling. He made several trips out to the Western US and two trips to Alaska. Survivors include his sons, Gary A. Summers of Williamsport, PA, Graham D. (Debbie) Summers of Leesburg, FL, Gene R. (Jeannie) Summers of Canton, PA, his daughter Gail A. (Stanley) Haysham of Canton, PA, several grandchildren and great grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews. Ralph was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Susette, his son Gregory R. Summers who passed away on July 8, 2004, and his sisters Minnie, Ruth, and Eunice, and his brothers Howard, Leonard, and Quentin. Memorial contributions may be made in Ralph’s memory to the Wounded Warrior Project 301 Grant Street, Suite 900 Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania 15219.
