YORK - Ralph R. Shellenberger passed away Monday, December 8, 2020 at Brunswick at Longstown. Ralph was the loving husband of the late Earline (Diehl) Shellenberger. He was 87 years old. A Graveside Tribute Service at Susquehanna Memorial Gardens will be livestreamed on the Olewiler Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory Facebook page www.facebook.com/olewilertributes/live at 12:00 Noon, Saturday, December 12, 2020 with his pastor, The Rev. Douglas DeStephano and Chaplain Arlene Dunn officiating. Full military honors will be presented by York County Veterans Honor Guard. Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion is in charge of arrangements. Born on December 30, 1932 Ralph was the son of the late Eugene A. and Sara (Gable) Shellenberger. He graduated from Dallastown High School, Class of 1950. He graduated from Millersville College in 1957 with a science degree. He began his teaching career at Edgar Fahs Smith Middle School as a science teacher. While teaching he branched out and went on to get his Master’s degree in guidance counseling from Western Maryland College and became a guidance counselor at Dallastown Middle School. Ralph retired from Dallastown Area School District in June 1993. During his retirement, he volunteered in the mail room at York Hospital. Then Ralph became a fleet driver for Apple Chevrolet. Ralph served our country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a life member of the West York VFW Post 8951 and PSEA, a member of the NEA, DEA, PSCA and PSEA-R. He was an active member of the Loganville Christ Lutheran Church where he was a Sunday school teacher, Superintendent of Sunday school, served as President of the church council and served on other church committees. Ralph enjoyed spending time with his family and loved them dearly. Ralph enjoyed playing and watching baseball, golf, football and basketball. He received ‘The Most Valuable Player” trophy in the Susquehanna Baseball League in 1950. Ralph enjoyed camping and traveling with his family over the summer months. Ralph is survived by his brother, Dr. Paul T. Shellenberger and his wife Jane of York. He is also survived by his son Eric L. and his wife Christina Shellenberger of York and a daughter Denice and her husband Bill Brenneman. He has four grandchildren Maria and Lydia Shellenberger and Seth and Lauren Brenneman. Ralph is also survived by nieces and nephews. Ralph was preceded in death by his brother Gene G. Shellenberger.
