Ralph E. Bookmyer, Jr.

EAST PROSPECT-Ralph E. Bookmyer, Jr., 74, died Monday, February 16, 2009 at Rest Haven in York. He was the husband of the late Mary R. (Sanders) Bookmyer. A Celebration of Life Service will be 10 a.m. on Saturday at Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place in Red Lion. Viewings will be from 6-8 p.m. on Friday and 9-10 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens with full military honors by York County Veteran's Honor Guard. Mr. Bookmyer was born in York on December 20, 1934, a son of the late Ralph E. and Lillian (Selsmer) Bookmyer, Sr. He was the Owner and Operator of Golden Spike Restaurant in Delroy, was the Owner and Auctioneer of Prospectors Auction and worked as a Real Estate Agent for Coldwell Banker. Mr. Bookmyer was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Dallastown, Kreutz Creek Lions Club, and Hellam V.F.W. He served in the US Army in the Korean War. Mr. Bookmyer leaves two sons, Kenneth Bookmyer and his wife Susan of Woodstock, VA, and Edward Bookmyer and his wife Patricia of Craley; five daughters, Cynthia Spangler of York, Joanne Bookmyer and her husband Robert of California, Linda Bookmyer of York, Diane Foster and her husband Raymond of Shermansdale, and Janet Dieffenbach and her husband Tom of Chalk Hill; nine grandchildren, Adam and his companion Kerri, Dallas, Ashlynn, Perry, Sean, Gabriella, Victoria, Leigh, and Alyce; a great granddaughter, Cloe Lynne; a sister, Marilyn O. Markey of Windsor; and nieces and nephews. A sister, Phyllis Ream and a brother, Rolland Bookmyer preceded him in death. Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association or American Diabetes Association.
