R. Elizabeth 'Betty' (Rutter) Koontz

YORK- R. Elizabeth “Betty” (Rutter) Koontz, 91, passed away on Thursday, August 28, 2014 at Country Meadows. She was the wife of the late Robert L. Koontz, who passed away on February 11, 2000. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at Prospect Hill Cemetery. A funeral cortege will meet at 12:45 p.m. at the Pennsylvania Ave. entrance. A visitation will be from 2:30-3:30 p.m. Tuesday at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd., York. Born on January 10, 1923 in York, she was a daughter of the late George A. and Ruth S. (Golden) Rutter. Mrs. Koontz was a 1939 graduate of North York High School and a 1943 graduate of Shippensburg University. Betty was an elementary school teacher for 25 years for the Dover Area School District until her retirement. Mrs. Koontz was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in York. Betty enjoyed playing cards with her friends. She was a former member of the Young Women’s Club of York and University Club of York. Mrs. Koontz is survived by two sons, Robert L. Koontz, II (Bonnie) of Dover and Thomas Koontz (Debra) of Dover; five grandsons, Thomas Koontz, II (Holly)of Beaverton, OR, Brian Koontz (Tiffany) of Dover, Douglas Koontz (Elizabeth) of Charlotte, N.C., Aaron Koontz (Christie) of Lancaster and Brent Koontz (Abigale) of Manchester; seven great grandchildrenone sister, Joann (Rutter) Hartman (Stewart) of York. She was preceded in death by a sister, Jeanne (Rutter) Enriquez. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity of your choice in Betty’s memory.
