Preston L. Herbst

WRIGHTSVILLE- Preston L. “Pret” Herbst, 83 of Lower Windsor Township, passed away Saturday, March 23, 2024 at his residence. He was the husband of Jeanne M. (Moritz) Herbst. The couple celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary on July 11, 2023.

A celebration of life memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on April 20, 2024 at Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place in Red Lion, with a visitation from 2-3 p.m. The service will be webcast live and can be viewed by searching Preston’ s obituary at HeffnerCare.com at the start of the service. Certified Celebrant Allison Duke and Chaplain Kathy Hettinga will be officiating at the service.

Preston was born in New Bridgeville on March 5, 1941, a son of the late Elizabeth Berkheiser. He owned and operated Herbst Racing, where he trained Thoroughbred racehorses in Lower Windsor Township.

He was employed as a huntsman with Rose Tree Fox Hunting Club, whipper-in at Vicmead Hunt Club, and whipper-in at Foxcatcher Hounds Hunt Club.

Along with his wife Jeanne, Pret leaves two daughters, Tina Marie Callahan and her husband Stephen of Wrightsville and Tracy Ann Troutman and her husband Ronald of Hartford County, MD; seven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; a brother Frank Herbst; and a son-in-law, Gary Pierce of Cecil County, MD. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Tonya Christine Pierce and his siblings, Jacob Heffner, Charlene Ziegler, and Lamar “Sonny” Kline.
