Pierce J. Streavig

Dallastown — Pierce J. Streavig, 86, passed away Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at the Dallastown Nursing Center. He as the husband of the late Phyllis L. (Sinclair) Streavig with whom he shared 60 years, until her passing in 2008. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 10:30 AM, Saturday, July 26, 2014 at Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion with the Rev. Roger Mentzer officiating. Viewings will be held from 6-8 PM, Friday and from 9:30-10:30 AM, Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens with full military honors provided the York County Veterans Honor Guard. Born February 14, 1028 in Red Lion, he was a son of the late Perry and Katie (Miller) Streavig. He was a United States Marine Corps Veteran of World War II. At a young age, Mr. Streavig worked on his father’s butcher truck delivering meat house to house. After he got married he began painting houses. He and his wife soon decided to go into business for themselves. Their business interest, all of which were in or around Dallastown, included a car wash, a service station, a laundry facility, a dairy bar, a stand at Central Market, they supplied all the produce to vendors at the York Fair for many years, and he was also involved in several land development project. The accomplishment he cherished most was Streavig’s Food Market, where he worked side by side with his wife from 1954-1970. Piece and Phyllis received Dallastown’s Outstanding Citizen Award in 2009 for their dedicated service and development of Dallastown. He loved his Christmas lights, always decorating his store with thousand of lights every year and later started decorating his house the same way. Every year, he would dress as, Santa and his wife, as Mrs. Santa. Regardless of weather, they were there, he riding his tractor around talking to kids and his wife beside him handing out candy canes. He also enjoyed rides in the country which always led to a stop at the Collinsville Dairy Bar for a burger and ice cream cone. Mr. Streavig is survived by three sons, Gregory L. Streavig and wife, Lorna of Red Lion, Michael L. Streavig and Jill of Red Lion and Jeffery A. Streavig Sr., and wife, Deborah of Dallastown; 6 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren; one sister, Miriam Grabow of Florida; one brother-in-law, Enos Sinclair and wife, Shirley of E. York; two sisters-in-law; Doris Kauffman and husband, Weldon of York and Deloris Wilson and husband, Ronald of Manchester; a special friend, Ellen Bare and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister, Lucille Jackson and one brother, Wayne Streavig.
