Phyllis A. (Boehm) Johns

TROY- Phyllis A. (Boehm) Johns, 82, of Troy, PA died unexpectedly Saturday, July 30, 2011 at the Troy Community Hospital. She was the loving wife of the late Lawrence D. “Larry” Johns who passed away on January 20, 1995. The couple married April 2, 1948 and had 47 happy years together. Family and friends are welcome to call from 7:00-9:00 PM on Friday, August 5, 2011 and again from 10:00-11:00 AM on August 6, 2011 at the Gerald W. Vickery, Jr. Funeral Home, Inc. 1093 West Main Street Troy, PA. The funeral service to honor Phyllis’ life will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 6th at the funeral home with her pastor, Rev. Garry Zuber, officiating. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery. Phyllis was born on March 18, 1929 in Sayre, PA. She was the daughter of the late Stanley and Emma (Lineman) Boehm. She and Larry became residents of Troy in 1950. Phyllis was a cook at the Troy High School cafeteria for over 20 years until her retirement in 1997. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Troy and a long time member of United Commercial Travelers where she held many offices. In addition, she was a long time member of Troy Fire Department’s Ladies Auxiliary and bowled in the Thursday Night Ladies League at Terrace Lanes. Phyllis loved traveling, especially to Branson, Missouri, San Francisco, California and St. Augustine, Florida. She enjoyed her cat Cindy and watching her humming birds. She would escape the cold weather by going to St. Augustine Florida every other Christmas. Phyllis enjoyed eating ice cream sundaes at Ghirardelli Square in San Francisco, eating See's Chocolates of San Francisco, and listening to music by Daniel O'Donnell. Phyllis is survived by her four sons: Richard, and wife Susan Johns, of Pacifica, CA. Gary Johns and friend Lynette Richardson of Troy, Keith, and wife Louise, Johns of Elmira, NY, Bruce, and wife Barbara Johns of St. Augustine, FL, her Grandchildren: Amanda, David, and Alexander Johns of Troy, Emma and Samantha Johns of Pacifica, CA, Melisa and Anthony Johns of St. Augustine, FL, and several great grandchildren, her brothers Louis (Phyllis) Boehm of Waverly, NY and Donald Boehm of Sayre, PA, along with several nieces and nephews. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Larry, her granddaughter Lori Ann Johns, who passed away on January 27, 1991, and her brother and sister-in-law Jack and Jennie Boehm. Contributions may be made in Phyllis’ memory to the charity of ones own choosing.
