Philp J. Bentzel

YORK- Philip J. Bentzel, 95, passed away Thursday, September 17, 2015 at Pleasant Acres Nursing Home in York. He was the husband of Gladys E. (Jacobs) Bentzel. The couple would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary this coming February. A Celebration of Life tribute service will be held at 2 PM on Monday, September 21, at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York, with Pastor Deborah Volker officiating. A visitation will be held from 1-2 PM prior to the service. Interment will be in Shiloh Cemetery. Born April 28, 1920 in York, Phil was a son of the late Charles A. and Bertha M. (Bupp) Bentzel. He worked as a planning processor for 16 years at Caterpillar in York until his retirement in 1982. He continued to work at local golf courses, the last being York Country Club, until he was 86. Philip was a 1939 graduate of William Penn High School. Mr. Bentzel served our country in the United States Marine Corp during World War II. In addition to his wife Gladys, Mr. Bentzel is survived by two sons, Gary E. Bentzel of Ft. Worth, Texas, and Craig P. Bentzel and his wife Gail of York; five grandchildren; two great grandchildren; a sister, Dorcas E. Brenneman of York, and several nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, Phil was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard H. Bentzel and Ivan R. Bentzel, and a sister, Mary M. Lentz.
