SHREWSBURY- Phillip J. Treffinger, 63, passed away Sunday, April 29, 2012, at Manor Care South. He was the husband of Mary M. (Thomas) Treffinger. Phil was born on September, 9, 1948, in Baltimore, the son of the late Herman J. Treffinger and Kathleen M. (Holland) Treffinger. After graduating from Towson (Md.) High School, Phil was hired by the C&P Telephone Co. In 1968, he enlisted in the Army and was stationed in Vietnam and Berlin, Germany. After he was discharged from the Army, Phil went back to work for the telephone company, retiring from Verizon after 35 years. Phil’s vocation was telecommunications, but his avocation was emergency services. He was a member of the Owings Mills fire department in Maryland and the Shrewsbury Volunteer Fire Company. Phil’s latest job was coordinator of communications at the York County 911 Center, which was a perfect fit, combining his telecommunication skills and his love of all things fire-service related. He was an avid train enthusiast, a hobby he shared with his father and his grandchildren. Phil is survived by his wife, Mary; a son, Truman E. Treffinger of York; a daughter, Elizabeth L. Jones and her husband, Brian, of York; six grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Grace, Brendan, Lily, John and Ava; his stepmother, Margaret Treffinger; and a brother, Paul Treffinger. He was preceded in death by his brother, Gerald Treffinger. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 12 at Christ Lutheran Evangelical Church, 105 South Main Street, Shrewsbury, Pa. Burial will follow at the church cemetery with full military honors by York County Veterans Honor Guard. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd. in York is in charge of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to H.O.P.E, 150 East Main Street, New Freedom, PA, 17349.
