DOVER—Phillip J. Renninger, 76, passed away Thursday, October 20, 2022 at his residence in Dover Township.


A Celebration of Life Tribute will be held 11:45am, Sunday October 30, 2022 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd, York. A visitation will be held from 11:00am-11:45am at the funeral home. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.


Born May 11, 1946 in Pottsville, he was the son of Mary F. (Kirby) Deller.


Phil had an extensive career with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. He began his employment at the PA Board of Probation and Parole, and thereafter was promoted to the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency where he contributed immeasurably to the statewide and national criminal justice system advancements for over 35 years. He retired in 2003.


Following his graduation from Red Lion High School, he completed his undergraduate studies at Albright College in Reading. His postgraduate education led him to the University of Pennsylvania where he received his Master’s Degree. He concluded his postgraduate work at Temple University, earning a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD).


Over the years, he authored and contributed his vast knowledge to numerous publications. He also downloaded his wisdom as a professor of Criminal Justice at Albright College.


Phil was able to blend his love of travel with his other hobbies of golf, music, and reading. He enjoyed playing golf on some of the most famous courses in the world, St. Andrews in Scotland was a highlight. He took many trips down to New Orleans where his love of reading travel books would help him find hidden restaurant gems while he was in town to attend the New Orleans Jazz Fest.


Mr. Renninger is survived by two daughters, Kimberly L. Holtzapple of Mt. Wolf and Nicole M. Levan and her husband, Matt of Honey Brook; two sons, Jonathan P. Renninger of Bordentown, NJ and Gregory S. Shaffer and his wife, Gretchen of W. York; ten grandchildren, Lauren, Allison, Casey, Paige, Brooke, Matthew, Lillian, Megan, Trinity and Andrew; two great grandchildren, Sophia and Scarlett; beloved girlfriend, Lynn N. Hereda of Lancaster; one brother, Michael D. Deller and his partner, Todd Cave of Craley; one sister, Sandra A. Heimberger of York and nieces and nephews.


In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association, 610 Community Way, Lancaster, Pa 17601.
