Philip R. Botterbusch

YORK – Philip R. Botterbusch, 90, left this earth on Thursday, December 10, 2015 to be with his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris (Kepner) Botterbusch in 1994. He also lost his companion, Betty Spahr in 2006. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, December 15, 2015 at Calvary Baptist Church, 2740 Roosevelt Avenue, York with Pastor Richard Hall officiating. Private burial will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery with full military honors. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Botterbusch was born in North York on February 1, 1925 a son of the late Harry S. and Florence R. (Lease) Botterbusch. He graduated from North York High School in 1943 and immediately joined the US Army. Phil served in WWII with the 593rd Joint Assault Signal Co. earning the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with two Bronze Stars and the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Ribbon with the Bronze Arrowhead and four Bronze Stars. Following his military service, he was employed by Horn-Crone-Horn Photo Engraving and Printing Co. and later by White Rose Printing. Phil was also a part-time musician for 38 years playing with The Jerry Martin Band, The Rudy Carroll Trio, and the Jim B Duo. He was a member of Mt. Wolf VFW 2493 and the Pleasureville American Legion. Mr. Botterbusch is survived by a daughter, Cindy R. Malandro of Black Canyon City, AZ; three sons, Richard A. and wife Patricia A. Botterbusch of York, Robert E. and wife Donna Botterbusch of Thomasville, NC, and Steven K. and wife Chris Botterbusch of New Bern, NC; five grandchildren, Marty, Dan, Jen, Adam, and Carina; and five great grandchildren, Liam, Chase, Lyla, Braxton, and soon to be born, Henry. He was preceded in death by his beloved Schnauzer, Andy. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to York Co. SPCA, 3159 Susquehanna Trail N., York, PA 17406. Don’t mourn too long, but think of this as a day of celebration. I had a good life! ~ Phil B.
