Philip J. Altland

YORK- Philip J. Altland, 88, died on Saturday, May 14, 2016, at SpiriTrust Lutheran Home. He was the husband of the late Norma J. (Roseberry) Altland, who died on September 8, 2015. The couple had been married for 64 years. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 23, 2016, at St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church, 25 N. Adams St., York, with the Reverend Darcy Reis officiating. A visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery. Born on January 19, 1928 in York, he was the son of the late Earl D. and Elizabeth A. Altland. Philip was a self-employed contractor. Mr. Altland was a member of St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church. He enjoyed square dancing, taking trips to the beach, and spending time at his cabin in Pine Grove Furnace, which he built with the help of his father and uncle. Mr. Altland served our country in the U.S. Navy for two years. Mr. Altland is survived by one nephew, Daniel B. Wilson of York; several cousins; and close friends, Jim and Jodi Giles and Bill & Sue Breen. He was preceded in death by his sister, Sylvia A. Wilson, by a few hours.
