YORK- Philip F. Birkett, 83, died on Thursday, November 4, 2021 at York Hospital. He was the loving husband of Janet L. (Sweder) Birkett to whom he was married for 64 years. Born May 27th, 1938 in Scranton, PA, Phil was the son of the late Donald and Helen (Felts) Birkett. He worked for McCrory Stores for 37 years where he started out as a stock boy at J.J. Newberry and worked his way up to Buyer. He then worked for Harley Davidson for 10 years until his retirement. Mr. Birkett served our country for two years in the U.S. Army. He enjoyed playing tennis, volleyball, pickleball, country line dancing, playing cards and spending time with his friends in Sarasota, FL. He was a kind and generous man, always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone. Most importantly, he loved spending time with family. Along with his wife, Janet, Philip is survived by two sons, Philip A. Birkett and his wife, Andrea of York and Gary Birkett and his partner, Jennifer Morrison of York; daughter, Susan Sokolow and her husband, Jaison of Scottsdale, AZ; three grandchildren, Morgan Patterson and her husband, Brad of Smithfield, NC, Benjamin Birkett of Baltimore, MD and Riley Sokolow of Scottsdale, AZ; a great granddaughter, Everly Patterson; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Al and Tom Birkett; sisters, Carol Eckel and Charlotte Benasutti; and daughter-in-law Lora Birkett. A funeral service to celebrate Phil’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 20, 2021 at Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Pl., Red Lion. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. The service will be livestreamed at HeffnerCare.com by searching Philip’s Obituary. Burial will be in Craley Cemetery with full military honors provided by the York County Veterans Honor Guard.
