Philip A. Frey

YORK - Philip A. Frey, 67, passed away surrounded by family and loved ones on Monday, April 3, 2023, at WellSpan York Hospital. He was the husband of Diane E. Frey. The couple wed on May 23, 1992.


A Celebration of Life Service will be 10:00 am Saturday, April 8, 2023, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 839 W. Market St, York, preceded by visitation at 9:00 am, with Rev. Kevin T. Shively officiating. An open burial will be at Prospect Hill Cemetery. All are welcome to attend. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, York is assisting with arrangements.


Mr. Frey was born June 10, 1955, in York. He was the son of the late Everett E. Frey and Louise (Hege) Frey.


He had a successful 45-year career in architecture. He was a 1973 West York Area High School alumnus and a 1978 graduate of Carnegie Mellon University.


Mr. Frey was a life member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church of York where he was a former member of the Church Council, a Sunday School teacher, Head of the Property Committee, Director of the Sunday School Orchestra, Participant of the Brass Ensemble, Head of Stewardship Campaign, an active member of Live Grow Go Campaign, and managed the conversion of the gathering space and auditorium. Mr. Frey enjoyed participating in the trumpet section of the Red Lion Felton Band. He also enjoyed watching sports on TV, attending PSU football games, attending his daughters’ activities, and spending time with his family.


He is survived by his wife, Diane E. Frey of York; his two daughters Sarah E. J. Frey and husband, Justin Ernest of Macungie, and Naomi L. G. Frey and longtime boyfriend Tyler W. VanWyk of York; one brother Rodney H. Frey and wife, Dotty Frey of South Portland, ME; many devoted nieces and nephews; and feline companion, Brittany. He was preceded in death by his son, Timothy J. Frey; and his parents Everett E. Frey and G. Louise (Hege) Frey.
