YORK - Philip A. Douglas, 85, of York Township, died Monday afternoon, November 17, 2008 at York Hospital. He was the husband of Doris E. (Kohler) Douglas with whom he celebrated a 62nd wedding anniversary on June 15th. A Celebration of Life Service will be 11 a.m. Friday, November 21st at Grace Lutheran Church, 220 N. Charles St., Red Lion with his pastor, the Rev. Anne-Rose Reeves officiating. Burial with military honors will be in St. Luke Lutheran Cemetery, New Bridgeville. Visitation will be 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the church. Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Red Lion is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Douglas was born February 26, 1923, in New Bridgeville. He was the son of the late P. Daniel and Esta O. (Haugh) Douglas. He was a 1939 graduate of Red Lion Area Senior High School and a 1943 graduate of the State Teachers College at Millersville where he earned his Bachelor's Degree. Later, in 1964 he received his Masters of Education from Millersville State College. He was a veteran of World War II serving as a pilot flying B-24 aircraft in the US Army Air Force. He was stationed with the 8th Air Force based in England and served in the Rhineland and Central Europe Theatres of Operation. After returning from the war, Mr. Douglas was employed as an Industrial Arts Teacher with the West York Area Senior High School, a position he held for 41 years until his retirement in 1986. He was also an avid outdoorsman enjoying hunting, fishing and golf. In addition to his wife, he leaves his daughter, Becky Douglas May of York; two sons, Steven E. Douglas and wife, Sharon of York and Daniel A. Douglas and wife, Cathy of Reading; five grandchildren, Andrew and Kevin May, Eric Douglas, and Aubrey and Tucker Douglas; a brother, Guy L. Douglas of Tucker, GA; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Allen May on August 30, 2008; a brother, Lloyd Douglas; and a sister, Deanna Douglas. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Grace Lutheran Church Food Pantry, 220 N. Charles St., Red Lion, PA 17356.
