YORK – Pheobe E. (Ferree) Tobin, 91, passed away Friday, November 30, 2012, at Manor Care Kingston Court. She was the wife of the late James Frederick Tobin. A memorial service will be held Sunday, December 9, 2012, at 3:00 PM at the Yorkana Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 4054 Park Lane, York, 17406, with Elder Larry Jamison officiating. Private burial will be in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York, is in charge of arrangements. Born January 29, 1921, in Springfield Twp., a daughter of the late Samuel and Zana E. (Stermer) Ferree, she began working in a shirt factory in York and then at the former Borg Warner Co. Later, she earned her cosmetology license and spent over 15 years as a licensed cosmetologist and then as a certified electrologist. She attended the Yorkana Kingdom Hall, and spent many happy hours volunteering in the Bible teaching work. Mrs. Tobin enjoyed organic gardening, crocheting, was an excellent cook, and loved walking in the mountains. Mrs. Tobin is survived by three sons, James Jay Tobin and wife Patti of York, Frederick Lee Tobin of York, and Darrell Lynn Tobin and wife Janine of York; five grandchildren, James H. Tobin, Kristina A. Elkins, Michelle L. Plaia, Melissa S. Edye, and Heather L. Foradis; three great grandchildren; a brother, Caleb Ferree of Jacobus; and a sister, Florence Kriner, of Jacobus. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Charles, Edward, George, and Spencer; and two sisters, Helen and Estella. Memorial contributions may be made to the worldwide work of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 25 Columbia Heights, Brooklyn, NY 11201-2483.
