York—Phares D. Meisenhelter, 78, passed away, Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at York Hospital. He was the husband of Doris R. (Matthews) Meisenhelter with whom he celebrated 47 years of marriage. A funeral service will be 11 a.m., Saturday, May 15, 2010 at St. David's Evangelical Congregational Church, 2411 Oakland Rd, Dover, with his pastor, the Rev. Pat Teaford, officiating. A viewing will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m., at the church. Burial will be held in Salem Union Cemetery; Dover Twp, with a flag presentation by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. Heffner Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc, 1551 Kenneth Rd, York, is in charge of arrangements. Born June 1, 1931 in Dover, he was a son of the late Ellis V. Meisenhelter Sr, and Emma (Sweitzer) Meisenhelter. He was employed with Precision Components, formerly S. Morgan Smith and Allis Chalmers, for 40 dedicated years. A United States Army Veteran of the Korean War, he was also a member of St. David's Evangelical Congregational Church in Dover. He liked cooking, camping, nature and feeding the birds. His greatest pleasure and joy was spending time with his family, particularly his grandchildren and great granddaughters. In addition to his wife, Mr. Meisenhelter is survived by, four sons, Matthew Meisenhelter and his wife, Judi of Pittsburgh, Paul Bentzel III and his wife, Betty of York, Edwin Bentzel and his wife, Linda, of Manheim and Anthony Bentzel of York, one daughter, Esther Van O' Linda and her husband, Richard, of York, 8 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, four brothers, Chester Meisenhelter of Dover, Glenn Meisenhelter of Towanda, Charles Meisenhelter of Shawnee, KS, and Arvil Meisenhelter of York, one sister, Amanda Sloterbeck of Comer, GA, and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by five brothers and sisters, Ellis Meisenhelter Jr, Rhoda, Floyd and Hilda Meisenhelter and Harriet Kehr. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. David's Evangelical Congregational Church, 2411 Oakland Rd, Dover, Pa 17315.
