YORK, PA - Peter Vito, 91, formerly of Ambridge, passed away Saturday, September 29, 2018 at Normandie Ridge Nursing Home in York. He was the husband of Olga (Roman) Vito to whom he was married for 68 years. Pete was born on June 30, 1927 in Ambridge, a son of the late John and Mary (Beley) Vito. He managed various grocery store meat departments. Mr. Vito also worked for AM-GARD Security services prior to his retirement. He enjoyed building models and was a former member of St. Vladimir Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Ambridge. Mr. Vito was a proud US Navy veteran of WWII where he was stationed at NOB Midway Island. He served as a Ship’s Cook Butcher on both the USS Saratoga CV3 and USS Adm. W. S. Sims and earned the Asiatic Pacific and Victory medals for his service. In addition to his wife, Mr. Vito is survived by a daughter, Janet Vito Potter and husband Kenneth Potter, Jr. of York; four grandchildren, Dr. Julianne and husband Joseph Qualtieri, Kevin P. Newcomer, Ryan A. Potter and Natalie A. Potter; and two great grandchildren, Alexis and Corinne Qualtieri. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy Vito Newcomer; a grandson, Matthew A. Potter; one brother; and four sisters. Funeral services and burial will be private. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York is in charge of arrangements.
