YORK – Peter L. Mashok, 85, passed away Monday, April 17, 2017 at his home following an extended illness. He was the husband of Mary E. (Brickley) Mashok to whom he was married for 49 years. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, May 6, 2017 at Saint Paul Lutheran Church, 250 Trinity Road, York with his Pastor, The Rev. Paul Gausman officiating. Full military rites will be provided by York County Veterans Honor Guard immediately following the tribute service. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York is in charge of arrangements. Born May 28, 1931 in Dunmore, Lackawanna Co.; the fifth of seven sons to the late Stephen and Mary (Lucas) Mushak, he was a graduate of Pennsylvania State University where he received the Merck Award for outstanding scholarship and was a member of both the Chemical and Engineering Honor Societies. He remained a major Penn State fan for the rest of his days. Mr. Mashok retired as a chemical engineer from Aberdeen/Edgewood Arsenal in MD, and had also worked for DuPont in Kansas and Indian Head Naval Station in MD. He was an active volunteer in his community for many years and was a committed Christian. Mr. Mashok served as a Staff Sergeant in the US Air Force during the Korean War. In addition to his wife, Mr. Mashok is survived by a daughter, Mary Elizabeth and husband David Heck of PA; two grandsons, Drew and Sam Heck; a brother, Michael Mushak of NJ; three sisters in law; 11 nieces and nephews; 15 great nieces and nephews; and 12 great great nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice and Community Care of York and Lancaster Co., 685 Good Drive, Lancaster, PA 17604 or to Slavic Gospel Association, Inc., 6151 Commonwealth Drive, Loves Park, IL 61111.
