Perry E. Smith

RED LION—Perry E. Smith, 75, passed away Monday, May 31, 2021 at York Hospital. He was the husband of Ruth A. (Steidler) Smith. The couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on April 10th. A Celebration of Life Service will be 11AM Monday, June 7, 2021 at Emmanuel United Church of Christ, 1625 Windsor Rd, Red Lion. Officiating the service will be the Rev. Philip Nace. Viewings will be held from 3-5PM, Sunday at Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion and from 10-11AM Monday at the church. Burial will be held in Freysville Cemetery with military honors provided by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. Born January 28, 1946 in York County, he was a son of the late Dale W. and Agnes I. (Young) Smith. He was employed as a machine operator with Caterpillar for 30 years until his retirement in 1996. In addition to working at CAT, he spent a lifetime farming his land in Windsor Township. A lifetime and active member of Emmanuel United Church of Christ—Freysville, he was also a member of Pennsylvania Farm Bureau, a 1963 graduate of Red Lion High School and served in the United States Army from 1963 to 1966. In addition to his wife, Mr. Smith is also survived by a daughter, Lynette A. Harrison and husband, Jeffrey of Wrightsville; a son, Glenn W. Smith and his wife, Megan of York; three grandsons, Brady A., Blake N. and Bryson J. Smith; a brother, Stanley L. Smith of York and one niece and two nephews.
