RED LION-Pearl Irene (Runkle) Elfner, 109, died Friday, February, 26, 2010 at Dallastown Nursing Home. She was the loving wife of the late George R. Elfner, to whom she was married to for 39 years, who preceded her in death, October 1962. A celebration of life service will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at Life Tributes by Olewiler and Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion, with her pastor the Rev. C. Leroy Doverspike officiating. A viewing will be held 9-10:00 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Shenberger's Chapel Cemetery. Mrs. Elfner was born November 15, 1900 in York, a daughter of the late Arelious Chalmer and Ida Agnes Katie (Arnold ) Runkle, and attended Thompson School to 5th Reader. She was a former employee of Worley Neff, Jacob Winters, and David Neff Cigar Factories. Mrs. Elfner was a life member of Bethany United Methodist Church, Red Lion, joining in 1949, and was very active in her church. Prior to that, she was a member of Shenberger's Chapel United Methodist Church. She enjoyed gardening, cooking and baking pies in her spare time. Mrs. Elfner is survived by a son Raymond L. Elfner and wife, Carol of Windsor; two grandchildren, Craig E. Elfner of York, and L. Lenore Brown and husband, Jason of Indiana; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Lester J. and Preston C. Runkle; and a sister Vergie G. Runkle. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bethany United Methodist Church, 121 W. Broadway, Red Lion, PA, 17356, or Shenberger's Chapel United Methodist Church, 469 Abels Rd., Wrightsville, PA 17368.
