Pearl C. (Mummert) Bonner

Lewisberry—Pearl Catherine Bonner, 93, passed away peacefully into eternal rest Sunday, March 2, 2014 at her home near Lewisberry. She was the devoted wife of Charles Laucks Bonner with whom she would have observed their 73rd wedding anniversary on March 8th. Born August 23, 1920 near Hanover, she was the oldest of the six children of Lewis and Elsie (Myers) Mummert. After graduating from New Cumberland High School and Central Penn Business School, she was employed in the Credit Office of Sears, Roebuck and Company until her marriage in 1941, when she became a full-time farmer’s wife. Pearl was very active in the life of her family, her community and the Redland Valley Church, where she volunteered for almost any task. She also spent several years teaching children’s Sunday school class and Bible school prior to attending Redland. She played the violin as a girl and sang alto with the Grantham Oratorio Society for several years. As devoted followers of Jesus Christ, her husband Charlie and she read daily and believed the Bible as God’s Holy word and prayed together with the family. Always an admirer of God’s handiwork in the beauty of nature, she could identify most local flowers and birds. An avid gardener who could can, freeze or cook almost anything, she had an open door for hospitality to all who stopped in. One of her many qualities was her sympathetic ear, always making time to listen and trying to be helpful. Family, neighbors, friends and even folks she’d met only moments before could share almost anything with her and know that she truly cared. Despite the increasingly serious challenges to her physical condition in recent years, she continued her participation in life happening around her. That involvement goes on now in the memories of all who knew her. Pearl was a kind and supportive parent, grandparent and great grandparent who will never be forgotten by her daughter, Nancy Botts (husband Timothy); foster daughters, Amanda McDonel (husband Ronald), Marti Daniels (fiancé Roger); foster son, Robert Olewiler (wife Peggy); adopted son, Robert (wife Marjorie); grandsons Scott Bonner (Robin), Mark Bonner (Melanie), Andrew Botts (Rebecca), Jeremy Botts (Susan); granddaughter, Katy Stern (Andrew); 17 great grandchildren; brother, Louis Mummert; sister, Betty Yinger and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by sisters Arletta and Alice and brother Wilson. A memorial to celebrate her long well- lived life will be held 11AM, Saturday, March 8, 2014 in Redland Valley Brethren in Christ Church, 3555 Lewisberry Rd, York Haven with her pastor, the Rev. Brian Willison officiating. A viewing will be held from 10-11AM, Saturday, at the church. Burial will be held in Emanuel Cemetery. Beaver-Urich Funeral Home, Inc., 305 W. Front Street, Lewisberry is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her name to the charity of your choice.
