YORK – Paul Wesley Erbe, 93, passed away Wednesday, October 5, 2022 at his home. He was the husband of Sally A. (Stinson) Erbe with whom he celebrated 65 years of marriage on May 11, 2022.


A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, November 19, 2022 at the First Baptist Church of Allentown, 72 Waker Ave – Rte. 526, Allentown, NJ 08501 with his son, Rev. Paul D. Erbe and his son-in-law, Rev. Michael H. Schutz officiating.


Born February 8, 1929 in Trenton, NJ, a son of the late John and Mary (Kilmer) Erbe; he was a 1947 graduate of Allentown High School in New Jersey and a 1953 graduate of Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy, MA where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. Mr. Erbe then joined the US Navy where he served as a pilot and earned the rank of Lt. Commander. In 1994, Paul retired as Captain from United Airlines having flown for 29 years. His memberships included the Church of the Nazarene and the Retired United Pilots Association. He helped to build both the parsonage and the church building for the New Egypt Church of the Nazarene. He also served on several Work & Witness trips overseas helping to build churches and other buildings. He excelled at DIY projects. He had a beautiful tenor voice and sang in quartets and choirs, as well as being a church song leader for many years. His guiding principle in life was from a song, “Only one life will soon be past, only what’s done for Christ will last.”


In addition to his wife, Mr. Erbe is survived by a son, Rev. Paul D. and wife Renee Erbe of Ball Ground, GA and their child Genesis; four daughters: Esther E. and husband Rev. Michael Schutz of Lancaster, PA, and their children Carissa and Luke; Sharon E. and husband Bryan Schwanke of Duxbury, MA and their children Janelle, Sara, Kayla, Noah, Arianna, and Damien; Janet E. and husband Wesley Paul of Barto, PA, and their children Hannah, Jocelyn, Corinne; Donna E. and husband Daryl Creager of York, PA and their children Emily and Liam; seven great grandchildren: Braylon, Eliana, Isaiah, Noelle, Penelope, Cecilia, Simeon; three brothers: Lester Erbe of Chatsworth, NJ; Samuel Erbe of Pembroke, MA; and Daniel Erbe of Pamplin, VA; and a sister, Esther Petersohn of Concord, VA and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Erbe’s predeceased siblings are John K. Erbe; Hannah C. Erbe; Gordon E. Erbe; Chester W. Erbe; and Ruth N. Erbe.
