Born June 23, 1928 in York, a son of the late Jacob H. and Amy E. (Markey) Keeney; he was a 1945 graduate of William Penn Senior High School. Paul then volunteered as a “seagoing cowboy” where men and boys tended the livestock shipped by the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration and the Heifer Project to war-devastated countries. The horses, cattle and mules the cowboys tended were delivered to families in war-ravaged Europe and Asia. Following his volunteer service; Paul, along with his brother David, were farmers all of their lives on the family farm of four generations. His ancestors were original stand holders at the Penn Street Farmers Market (built 1866) and the City Market (built 1878). He and his brother continued to operate the stands at both markets. Mr. Keeney was a member of Goodwill Fire Co. in Spry and New Fairview Church.

Memorial contributions may be made to Heifer International, 1 World Ave., Little Rock, AR 72202 www.heifer.org
