YORK - Paul J. Chernewski, 77, died Friday, October 17, 2008 at York Hospital. He was the husband of Marianne E. (Ehm) Chernewski. A Celebration of Life Service will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, October 21, 2008 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York. A viewing will be held from 10:00 AM to 11:00 PM Tuesday at the Funeral Home. Burial will be in Holy Saviour Cemetery. Mr. Chernewski was born July 19, 1931 in Shenandoah, PA, a son of the late George and Anna Chernewski. Mr. Chernewski was an U.S. Air Force Veteran where he served in the Korean War. During active duty he was stationed in Germany where he met his beloved wife of 54 years. Mr. Chernewski was a former employee of Gte Corporation for over 35 years until his retirement. Mr. Chernewski enjoyed shopping and growing flowers. He was an avid trout and bass fisherman. His favorite place to fish was Yellow Breeches Creek during trout season. Mr. Chernewski was a fan of the Penn State Nittnay Lions, the Philadelphia Eagles, and the old Baltimore Colts. He loved to travel during the summer with his wife and family. Some of their favorite trips were to Disney World, Canada, Boston, Niagara Falls, and The World's Fair. In addition to his wife, Mr. Chernewski leaves a daughter Karin Wilson-Woods and husband Douglas H. Woods of York; a grandson, James Wilson and wife Jessica of Mt. Wolf; and two great grandchildren, Alissa W. and Logan M. Wilson of Mt. Wolf. He was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Chernewski. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made your favorite charity.
