York—Paul Herbert “Johnny” Brandt, 89, died Saturday, October 6, 2012 at Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of the late Kathleen Ritchie “Kay” (Shoemaker) Brandt. A Celebration of Life Service will be 10:00 AM, Saturday, October 13, 2012, at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd, York. There will be no viewing or visitation prior to the service. Burial will be held in Salem Union Cemetery-Dover with military honors provided by the East Berlin Veteran of Foreign Wars. Born May 18, 1923 in York Springs, Adams County, he was a son of the late Charles Jacob and Hattie May (Smith) Brandt. He was a 1941 graduate of North York High School. He began his employment with York International in 1941 and retired in 1985 as a Supervisor in their maintenance department after more then 43 years of dedicated service. A United States Army Veteran of World War II, he was part of the 365th Independent Ordnance-Maintenance Company and fought in the “Battle of the Bulge.” He was a member of the East Berlin V.F.W, a Life Member of the Viking Club and a member of the former Dutch Club. As a young man he was an outstanding baseball player and later became an avid golfer. A people person who enjoyed telling jokes, he always had the perfect joke for the right time. Mr. Brandt is survived by son, Dennis W. Brandt and his wife, Linda of Red Lion; one grandson, Ryan Paul Brandt of Red Lion, two great grandchildren, Hunter and Sierra Brandt, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one grandson, Devon Christopher Brandt and seven siblings. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675.
