Patsy D. Rexroth

On August 22, 2019, Patsy Dawn Chronister Rexroth left this earth to join the love of her life and husband of 53 years, Chet. The daughter of Bernetta and Lawrence Baker, Pat grew up in Windsor and attended school there until she first became a Red Lion Lion. Graduating from Red Lion Area Senior High School in 1949, she then furthered her education at the York Hospital Nurses Training, where she, along with many of her treasured lifelong friends, was a member of the Class of 1952. Upon earning her RN designation, she worked as the Head Nurse of the Med-Surg Unit (1952-55) and as a Private Duty Nurse until 1960. At this point, Pat began two jobs that became her passion: for the next 25 years she worked in the office of “Pappy” Doc and Ella Dellinger. Also, she started her career as school nurse at Red Lion High School, a position she held until 1993. As a member of the Red Lion family, Pat became one of its most ardent supporters. Be it athletics (especially football), the Red Lion Musical Theater Program, or Chet’s tech crew kids, she never wavered in her dedication, a dedication she also demonstrated in Chet’s previous roles as coach and teacher at Kennard Dale High School. Loyalty and devotion also marked her participation in many organizations, among them as a member of Bethany United Methodist Church for over fifty years, where, she at one time or another, served as Sunday school teacher and class president, member of the Four Fold Friends class, and Encouragers. Other memberships included the National Marfan Foundation, board member of the York Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Association, PASC, the former Red Lion Country Club, Windsor Kids, Red Lion 60-year club, Red Lion Historical Society, York County Heritage Trust, a lifetime member of the USS Boxer Veterans Association, charter member of the National WWII Museum, and the US Navy Memorial. In addition to Chet and her parents, Pat was predeceased by her grandson, Andrew J. Rexroth. Pat is survived by grateful children Susie (Tom) Shultz, Michael, and Jeff (Shelley); grandchildren Laura (Devon) Sciortino, Leigh Shultz, Seth Rexroth, and Wyatt and Jesse Walter and great-grandchildren Gianna and Juliet Sciortino. Others left to cherish their memories are her sister Gail (Clarence) Ropp and brother Larry (Beryl) Baker, sisters-in-law Barbara Kunselman and Phyllis Rexroth, many nieces, nephews and cousins, and beloved friends and neighbors Kay Marie Estepp, Peggy Garner, and Paul and Eithel Keller. Family, faith and friends filled Pat’s life with joy, as did her love of reading, the beach, Penn State football and her beloved Red Lion Lions. A confidante of and mentor to many, Pat may have given birth to only three children, but she mothered many more—may she be remembered for that. Services to celebrate Pat’s life include a 6-8 PM viewing on Monday, August 26th at Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion as well as a 10-11 AM viewing at Bethany United Methodist Church, 121 W. Broadway, Red Lion followed by an 11 o’clock service on Tuesday, August 27th. Donations in her name can be made to the Red Lion Educational Foundation, the National Marfan Foundation or the Red Lion Leo Club.
