POTTSVILLE - Patricia Schilbe, 87, of West Market St., Pottsville for many years, passed away of Leukemia on Saturday morning at her home. Born in Tamaqua on August 8, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Carl and Josephine McGinty Schilbe. She was a 1940 graduate of Tamaqua High School and also graduated from Saint Leo University in Florida. Until retiring, Patricia had a long and full life, as a writer for ABC television in New York City from the 1960's through the 1980's. One of her promotions for ABC sports one a Cleo. In TV she wrote promos for such stars as Hugh Downs, Sid Caesar, Victor Borge, Frank Clifford, Dick Clark, Joan Bennett, Tony Randall, Englebert Humperdink, Gary Moore, Fred Astaire, and Robert Preston. At the time of her retirement she had spent 37 years with ABC. In the 1930's and 40's she had a career in radio. She was a worldwide traveler with adventures to China, England, Portugal and Italy to name a few. Patricia was an avid antiques collector. In January of this year, Patricia published her first book, one of Haiku Poetry, titled "Flashes of Life" a dream she had always hoped to fulfill. Surviving Patricia are: a son, William J. Schilbe, Orwigsburg; a niece Patricia L. Schilbe, Orwigsburg; several nieces, nephews and cousins. A private memorial service will be held Thursday evening at her home. The Schlitzer Allen Pugh Funeral Home, Inc., 6th & W. Market St., Pottsville, is handling the arrangements.
