YORK- Patricia M. (Murphy) Astor, 91, died Thursday, November 27, 2008 at Pleasant Acres Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. A memorial service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 2, 2008 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd., York with her pastor, The Rev. Patrick J. Rooney of Christ Lutheran Church, York. A visitation will be held from 6 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Mrs. Astor was born in New York, New York on November 17, 1917, a daughter of the late Deacon and Alison (Dubois) Murphy. She attended Penn Hall Junior College in Chambersburg and had presided in NY, NM, and PA. Mrs. Astor was previously employed with American Chain and Cable, York Casket Co., Jonathan Logan Sewing Factory, and retired from owning the Cottage Cafç¬ Mrs. Astor volunteered for the Special Olympics, September House, Meals on Wheels and the American Cancer Society. She was a life long member of the Ladies Auxiliary with the Hellam VFW. Mrs. Astor loved animals and was a supporter of the North Shore SPCA, Long Island, NY and SPCA of York County. Mrs. Astor was a surrogate mother and grandmother of many, the door was always open. Surviving are two daughters, Mary Kay King and her husband, Ronald of York and Reva June Parks of Colorado; two step sons, James and Robert Astor both of York; four grandchildren, Shannon Patterson and her husband Troy of York, Erin Inzana and her husband Eric of New Cumberland, Tammy and Larry Parks of Colorado; four step grandchildren, Ryan, Josh, Eric, and Michelle Astor; six great grandchildren. Preceding Mrs. Astor in death are former husbands, George Pogan, Amos Gehly, and Morris Astor. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the SPCA of York County, 3159 Susquehanna Trail, North, York, PA 17406.
