She was the wife of Arthur Edwin Johnston, to whom she was married for 52 years before his passing on July 4, 2008. Her latest work was a book of poetry Community College that she published just last year. She was most recently a member of the Tabernacle Presbyterian Church in Indianapolis, which her grandfather Dunkel built and where he was the first minister.
