Pastor Donald L. Biggs

YORK – Pastor Donald L. Biggs, 83, passed away Friday, November 7, 2014 at Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Mary Lynn (Heitzman) Biggs to whom he was married for 56 years. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 1:00 PM Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at First St. John’s Lutheran Church, 140 W. King Street, York with his pastor, The Rev. Jim Driskell officiating. Viewings will be held from 7-9:00 PM Tuesday at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York and from 12-1:00 PM Wednesday at the Church. Entombment will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery. Born October 20, 1931 in Mobile, Alabama a son of the late Leslie and Mary Leona Biggs, he was a graduate of St. John’s Seminary in 1956. Pastor Biggs served four congregations over his 40 years of ministry; Salem Lutheran Church, Buffalo, NY from ‘56-‘58, Epiphany Lutheran Church, Penn Hills, PA from ‘58-‘66, Luther Memorial Church, Tinton Falls, NJ from ‘66-‘82, and Martini Lutheran Church in Baltimore, MD from 1982 until his retirement in 1996. He was a member of First St. John’s Church and the White Rose Barbershop Quartet. Pastor Biggs and his wife, Mary Lynn had also participated with Northeastern High School’s Drama Club during their retirement. In addition to his wife, Pastor Biggs is survived by two sons, David L. and wife Kathie Biggs of Easton, PA and Jonathan R. and wife Mary Ann Biggs of Freehold, NJ; five grandchildren, Caitlyn, Myles and wife Claire, Danielle, Olivia and fiancé Richard McKay, and Jerica; and numerous family and friends. He was preceded in death by a half brother, Charles “Chuck” Porter. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lutheran Mission Society, 219 S. George St, York, PA 17401.
