York—Norman R. Lauer, 95, died Monday, March 15, 2010 at York Hospital. He was the husband of Mary R. (Holtzapple) Lauer, with whom he celebrated 66 years of marriage on April 21, 2009. A funeral service will be 10 a.m., Friday, March 19, 2010 at Heffner Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc, 1551 Kenneth Rd, York, with the Rev. Timothy Keller of Carlisle Alliance Church, officiating. A viewing will be from 9 to 10 a.m., Friday, at the funeral chapel. Entombment will be held in Mt. Rose Cemetery, with a military flag presentation by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. Born June 20, 1914 in York, he was a son of the late Charles H. and Lillie M. (Slenker) Lauer. Mr. Lauer was employed with Borg Warner as a Truck Driver and retired in 1976 after a dedicated career of 36 ½ years. He was a United States Navy Veteran of World War II and a member of the Seabees 29th Naval Construction Unit. He was also a member of the United Auto Workers Union-Local 1872. In addition to his wife, Mr. Lauer is also survived by one daughter, Bonnie L. Doelp and husband, Charles of York, two grandchildren, Stephanie Doelp and Douglas Doelp and wife, Laura, one great granddaughter, Haley Doelp, two brothers, Paul L. Lauer and Carl Lauer, both of York and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother, Arthur D. Lauer. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Disabled American Veterans (DAV), P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati OH, 45250-0301.
