NEW OXFORD – Norman L. Walters, 83, passed away Saturday, November 19, 2016 at York Hospital. He was the husband of Margaret “Peggy” (Harlow) Walters to whom he was married for 40 years. A Celebration of Life Tribute Service will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, December 2, 2016 in the Nicarry Meetinghouse at Cross Keys Village, 2990 Carlisle Pike, New Oxford with The Rev. Linda Titzell officiating. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York is in charge of arrangements. Born October 9, 1933 in Philadelphia, a son of the late Stanley and Marian (Patton) Walters, he was a graduate of Temple University. Mr. Walters began his career with the YMCA in Philadelphia and continued within the YMCA organization in both Reading and Anderson, IN and retired as CEO of YMCA of York. Norman then worked and later retired from Holliman Associates in Newport, PA. He had been a member of Rotary International. Mr. Walters was a US Army veteran. In addition to his wife, Mr. Walters is survived by two sons, Jeffrey T. and wife Nicole Walters of Stephens City, VA and Jonathon D. Walters and wife Mia Erickson of Eagle, CO; a daughter, Deborah L. Walters of Pueblo, CO; a stepdaughter, Karen S. and husband Joseph Kalman of Hemet, CA; five grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and a brother, Richard Walters of Conyers, GA. He was preceded in death by a stepson, David P. Slick; and a brother, Stanley Walters. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to YMCA of York County, 90 N. Newberry St. York, PA 17401.
