York—Norman L. "Josh" Shearer Jr., passed away peacefully Saturday, July 26, 2008 at his residence in Springfield Township. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m., Saturday, August 2, 2008 at Life Tributes by Olewiler and Heffner Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion with the Rev. Ray Hatcher of Salem Lutheran Church in Jacobus, officiating. Viewings will be held from 7 to 9 p.m., Friday, and from 9 to 10 a.m., Saturday, at the funeral home. Burial will be held in Salem Lutheran Cemetery, Jacobus. Mr. Shearer was born May 17, 1943 in Springfield Township, a son of the late Norman "Bud" Shearer Sr., and the late Pauline L. (Barshinger) Joines. He graduated from Dallastown High School with the class of 1961. In 2003, he retired from the International Union of Operator Engineers as a certified crane operator after 40 years of dedicated service to local 542. A life member of the Early American Steam Engine and Old Equipment Society, he enjoyed working on and rebuilding heavy equipment, was an avid motorcycle enthusiast and played bluegrass music regularly with family and friends. Mr. Shearer is survived by one brother, Dennis E. Shearer and his wife Beth of Dallastown, one niece, Lisa A. Meek of Wrightsville and one nephew, Joshua D. Shearer, currently serving in the United States Army, stationed in Korea. Josh lived a very full life and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association, 140 Roosevelt Ave., Suite 208, York, Pa 17401.
