RED LION--Norma J. Thompson, 83, of Red Lion, entered into Heaven on Thursday, October 18, 2018. Born on July 29, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Spencer and Margaret (Strickler) Henry of Red Lion. She was married for 59 years to the late Vincent Thompson of Dallastown; She is survived by two daughters: Melinda Meyers and her husband Christopher of Cambridge, MD; and Laurie Rieger and her husband Richard of Pittsburgh, PA. She is also survived by two sisters and a brother: Madelyn Murrow (the late Glen) of Lancaster, Lucinda Smeltzer (Ernest) of Dallastown and Jerry Henry (Linda) of Red Lion. Norma was preceded in death by her son Daniel Thompson and her sister Sandra Benedick (Dale). She was a favorite aunt to many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. She was also a beloved and proud grandmother to Sophia Meyers, Isabella Meyers, Ava Rieger and Maxwell Rieger. Norma was a 1953 graduate of Red Lion High School. In 1956 she graduated from the Pennsylvania Hospital School of Nursing in Philadelphia as a Registered Nurse. She worked as a nurse for more than 40 years. Through the span of her career, she worked at York Hospital, Dr. Philip Hoover’s office, Dallastown VNA, Red Lion VNA, Alan Health Care, Special Touch Home Care, Private Duty Nursing and York VNA. She was an active, lifelong member of Chapel United Methodist Church in Red Lion. As a church member, she taught both Sunday School and Bible School, acted as a Stephen Minister, served on the daycare board of directors and was a founding member of the choir. She was very outgoing and enjoyed meeting people in all walks of her life. She also loved to read, garden, travel and spend time with her family and friends. A visitation will be held from 3:00-4:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 27 at Chapel United Methodist Church, 3050 Cape Horn Rd., Red Lion, PA. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 4:00 p.m., with Pastor Brendan Hock officiating. Burial will be held in the Heiland View Cemetery.
