RED LION - Norma E. (Eline) Elfner, died at 11:24 a.m. Saturday, May 23, 2009, at York Hospital. She was 78. A service to celebrate Mrs. Elfner's life will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 27, 2009 at Bethany United Methodist Church, 121 W. Broadway, Red Lion with her pastor, the Rev. James E. VanZandt, officiating. Burial will be in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens. Viewing will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion and 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Mrs. Elfner was born November 6, 1930, in Red Lion. She was the daughter of the late Paul Eline and Claribel Gruver. She was a 1948 graduate of Red Lion High School and later earned her nursing degree through the York Hospital School of Nursing. She retired as a Registered Nurse after more than 45 years of practice at the York Hospital, Dr. Samuel Deisher's office, Dr. Walter Hill's office and Dr. Paul Schwartzkopf's office. She was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church for more than 50 years and will also be remembered for her kindness as an avid animal lover rescuing numerous abandon cats and dogs. Mrs. Elfner is survived by her son, Wade B. and wife, Theresa M. Elfner of Red Lion; three grandchildren, Nathan D., Nicole E., and Paul B. Elfner; an uncle, Robert Emenheiser of Red Lion and her former husband, Dale Elfner of Red Lion.
