Nicholas J. Chick

YORK Nicholas J. Chick, 96, died at 9:55 a.m. Sunday, June 30, 2013 at Normandie Ridge. He was the husband of Ruth L. (Gettel) Chick with whom he would have celebrated a 70th wedding anniversary on July 6th. A celebration of life service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, 1551 Kenneth Rd., York with the Rev. David Brinker, chaplain of Normandie Ridge, officiating. Burial with military honors by the York County Veterans Honor Guard will be at Susquehanna Memorial Gardens. Viewing will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at the chapel. Mr. Chick was born March 7, 1917, in Peekskill, NY. He was the son of the late Joseph and Mary (Lasorsa) Chick. He was a US Navy veteran of World War II. He retired in 1979 as an Elementary Administrator with the Mattituck/Cutchogue School District in Long Island, NY after many years of service. He was a member of the New York State Retired Teachers Association, the American Legion, the Knights of Columbus and St. Joseph Catholic Church, Dallastown. He was also an avid golfer and Penn State Football fan. In addition to his wife, Mr. Chick leaves a daughter, Mary Lou Rohrbaugh; a son, Joseph W. Chick and wife, Pat; five grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister and two brothers.
