MILTON - Nicholas E. "Eddie" Orphan, 83, died on Saturday, June 12, 2010 at the Kramm Health Care Center, Milton. Nicholas was born on July 17, 1926 in Milton and was the son of the late Nicholas P. and Helen M. (Werly) Orphan. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946 and served during WWII. He served on the USS Wyoming, USS Swasey and USS Catoctin. He then enlisted from 1950 to 1953 with the U.S. Army and his assignments included Ft. Bragg Special Services 407th QM P4C. He completed airborne training at Ft. Bragg and received the parachutist badge and good conduct medal. Nicholas was a salesman for Electrolux Vacuum Cleaners in Williamsport for 40 years and retired in 1996. He was a member of the St. John's United Church of Christ, Loyal Order of Moose, Milton, and the American Legion. He was also a member of the 82nd Airborne Division Association, Harrisburg Chapter. Nicholas was married to the former Evelyn P. (Deichart) for 40 years until her death in 1996. He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law; Nicholas S. "Nick" Orphan and his wife Susan Cook of Danville and Robert A. "Bob" and Ronnel Orphan of Milton, one daughter; Crystal E. Woolsey of Milton, four grandchildren; Kyle Woolsey, Dade Orphan, Reid Orphan and Amber Autumn Woolsey, three step grandchildren; Melisa Cook, Brentt Sherwood and Joseph Cook, two great grandchildren; Ethan Kyle Woolsey and Owen Perry Woolsey, four step great grandchildren; Darion Levanowitz, Braxton Reese Kelly, Ivy Cook and Colton Kane Kelly, and two sisters; Martha Pillsbury of Manville, NJ and Mary Jane Croyle of Collinsville, PA. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one brother; Robert Orphan and one sister; Anna Roush. There will be a graveside service held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are being handled by the Dale E. Ranck Funeral Service, 125 N. Front St., Milton, PA 17847.
